Mission & Values

The heartbeat behind the book, the blog, and the outreach.

Mission

Lighthouse in the Desert, by first time author James Cormier, exists to tell the true story of fear, faith and the unlikely friendships that are born amid unbelievable circumstances. The testing of one's endurance and strength when facing trials where the odds feel like they're stacked against you. Life while being stranded in a foreign country, where you don't speak the language, have few resources and are financially dependant on the help others. A memoir about practical courage, and a God who does not abandon anyone who calls on His name.

Core Values

  • Integrity: Tell the truth, faithfully, humbly, and with care for all those involved.
  • Service: To share and invite you along on a journey as realistically as possible; to inspire and encourage readers and followers who may be trapped in difficult circumstances and feel like there's no way out; to entertain, using a 100% true story that almost seems impossible to believe, yet it is quite real; and to create resources that genuinely help readers and communities.
  • Clarity: Write plainly; invite hard questions; honour the reader’s time.
  • Community: Make room for voices, testimonies, discussions, prayer, and much more!
  • Hope: Keep pointing to the Light, especially when it feels far away. My Lighthouse in the Desert is not exclusively for me, it's for anyone searching for hope and answers.
