Finding Time

As I get closer and closer to finishing up the manuscript, I find it more difficult to find the time to write? It's not a writer's block, the story is still fresh in my mind, and when I settle in and focus it all comes flowing back, in vivid detail.

What I have found that works really well is retreating from my daily life, work, family, chores, appointments and the dozens of other things that fill up my time. I supposed I could write in 15 minute blocks but that's not the way my brain works. I can muster only enough to throw together a blog post and then back to the minutiae of life.

For example, I'm at my desk now and taking a 5 minute break from work to compose this. It's very important to share this though, as I struggle to find the time, it's a reminder to myself that I have work to do. And to you the reader that the finished product is still on it's way.

I spent the past weekend, Easter weekend, dogsitting for close friends and while there, just my self and the two dogs, I managed to get another 5,000 words written; at the time of this writing I'm at 90,000 words total with more to come.

The peace and the calm that come from prayer and isolation are the best writing environment for me - I imagine many other writer's would have similar preferences. For now, head down and keep going.
